…
is it so easy to
kill, is it as
easy as getting on
a bus, is it as
easy as turning
your back to the
school kids on their
way home
…
it gets easier once you
carry the knife,
it gets easier once blades
are familiar,
it gets easier once you’ve
seen blood
the first time,
made blood
be seen
the first time,
it gets easier once you’re angry
enough or afraid
enough or alone
enough but
is it so easy,
is it as easy
as that
I love your use of line breaks. I’ve never been able to really use them well, and I admire those who do, very much. 🙂
thank you 🙂 I fiddled around with this one for a while until I felt reasonably happy with it. and that’s all it is really – find the breaks that feel right to you… I went to a writing class earlier this year, and we talked about line breaks and tried to guess them for someone else’s poem, and there really is no rhyme or reason for these choices…
I know what you mean… I call it “tinkering,” and you’re right: it’s almost like play, no rules, completely instinctive.
Maybe I need to sharpen my instincts. 🙂
or just trust your gut 🙂
