100 Questions (Just Because)

  1. Who is your hero? – At the moment anyone who feels free enough to create.
  2. If you could live anywhere, where would it be? – If I knew that, I’d be there.
  3. What is your biggest fear? – To not matter to anyone.
  4. What is your favorite family vacation? – The one without the family?
  5. What would you change about yourself if you could? – I’d be less exhausted/ overwhelmed from being with people (fate of the introvert…)
  6. What really makes you angry? – People being careless with other people.
  7. What motivates you to work hard? – Meaningful outcomes.
  8. What is your favorite thing about your career? – That I work in a place where prayer matters.
  9. What is your biggest complaint about your job? – The unrealistic expectations.
  10. What is your proudest accomplishment? – Completing my Master’s degree in literature.
  11. What is your child’s proudest accomplishment? – My inner child’s? Painting again.
  12. What is your favorite book to read? – The books I always return to are the Harry Potter books – it’s a good escape. One book that left lasting traces was “Stoner”.
  13. What makes you laugh the most? – People I love and feel able to relax/laugh with.
  14. What was the last movie you went to? What did you think? – Can’t remember. Maybe “Kingsmen”? Way too bloody/violent.
  15. What did you want to be when you were small? – A writer.
  16. What does your child want to be when he/she grows up? – The inner child again. She still wants to be a writer.
  17. If you could choose to do anything for a day, what would it be? – Have a studio to myself, and splash paint all over a really big canvas.
  18. What is your favorite game or sport to watch and play? – Snooker.
  19. Would you rather ride a bike, ride a horse, or drive a car? – Learning to drive would probably be a good idea at some point. I might enjoy it. I wonder.
  20. What would you sing at Karaoke night? – Florence and the Machine, “You’ve Got the Love”
  21. What two radio stations do you listen to in the car the most? – Not in the car but generally – Jazz FM while cooking, Heart while eating.
  22. Which would you rather do: wash dishes, mow the lawn, clean the bathroom, or vacuum the house? – Hate them all… The dishes I guess.
  23. If you could hire someone to help you, would it be with cleaning, cooking, or yard work? – Cleaning.
  24. If you could only eat one meal for the rest of your life, what would it be? – Fresh bread.
  25. Who is your favorite author? – Too many to choose from. Pick a genre. And a decade.
  26. Have you ever had a nickname? What is it? – Anyushka. I rather liked it.
  27. Do you like or dislike surprises? Why or why not? – More dislike than like, I guess. If I had the choice between getting suprises, both good and bad, or getting none, avoiding the bad, I’d pick the latter. But maybe there just hasn’t been much of a balance in the past.
  28. In the evening, would you rather play a game, visit a relative, watch a movie, or read? – Read, with company.
  29. Would you rather vacation in Hawaii or Alaska, and why? – Depends on the day! Today….Alaska. Landscape. Space.
  30. Would you rather win the lottery or work at the perfect job? And why? – Perfect job please! I prefer satisfying work to a life of instant gratification.
  31. Who would you want to be stranded with on a deserted island? – Someone with a satellite phone. And a kind heart. And a good sense of humour.
  32. If money was no object, what would you do all day? – Write. Paint. Travel.
  33. If you could go back in time, what year would you travel to? – Depends on the country. In the UK, the beginning of the 19th century, in Germany the late end.
  34. How would your friends describe you? – My friends are lovely people, so I’m sure they’d be generous…
  35. What are your hobbies? – photography, blogging, reading, art…
  36. What is the best gift you have been given? – having had to leave home
  37. What is the worst gift you have received? – reasons to stay away
  38. Aside from necessities, what one thing could you not go a day without? – faith
  39. List two pet peeves. – Being lectured. Manipulative people.
  40. Where do you see yourself in five years? – I wish I knew.
  41. How many pairs of shoes do you own? – About ten, I think. 
  42. If you were a super-hero, what powers would you have? – Being at peace.
  43. What would you do if you won the lottery? – Make a home. Write. Travel. Paint. Go back to uni if I feel like it.
  44. What form of public transportation do you prefer? (air, boat, train, bus, car, etc.) – I like trains.
  45. What’s your favorite zoo animal? – Flamingos
  46. If you could go back in time to change one thing, what would it be? – I’d say no to at least one of the last two relationship attempts.
  47. If you could share a meal with any 4 individuals, living or dead, who would they be? – Carol Ann Duffy. Alan Cumming. Ian Hislop. Lena Headey.
  48. How many pillows do you sleep with? – 2 thin (=cheap) ones.
  49. What’s the longest you’ve gone without sleep (and why)? – It was more than 30 hours. Can’t remember why. Perhaps unsurprisingly.
  50. What’s the tallest building you’ve been to the top in? – Voelkerschlachtdenkmal in Leipzig? I have no idea. I remember feeling dizzy there though. Is that higher than St Paul’s?
  51. Would you rather trade intelligence for looks or looks for intelligence? – I’m happy with the deal I got, thanks.
  52. How often do you buy clothes? – Lately more often. Depends on available funds.
  53. Have you ever had a secret admirer? – I wouldn’t know, would I.
  54. What’s your favorite holiday? – South of France, a few years ago, for rest. Russia for adventure.
  55. What’s the most daring thing you’ve ever done? – Saying no. And waving a rainbow flag.
  56. What was the last thing you recorded on TV? – Don’t have a TV.
  57. What was the last book you read? – Carol Ann Duffy, “The World’s Wife”
  58. What’s your favorite type of foreign food? – There’s a Chinese-Malay restaurant I love.
  59. Are you a clean or messy person? – Clean in terms of things having a place. Messy in terms of the regularity with which I hold a mop or duster.
  60. Who would you want to play you in a movie of your life? – Kate Winslet. Love her.
  61. How long does it take you to get ready in the morning? – If there’s time, hours to wake up, up to an hour for the rest. 
  62. What kitchen appliance do you use every day? – Kettle.
  63. What’s your favorite fast food chain? – No fan of fast food.
  64. What’s your favorite family recipe? – Maccaroni with “chasseur sausage” (says the dictionary) and cheese (really not the same as mac&cheese elsewhere). And goulash.
  65. Do you love or hate rollercoasters? – hate.
  66. What’s your favorite family tradition? – Advent decorations and gemuetlichkeit…
  67. What is your favorite childhood memory? – When I was a child, winter still meant lots and lots of snow…
  68. What’s your favorite movie? – I’ve recently been watching “Salmon Fishing in the Yemen” over and over.
  69. How old were you when you learned Santa wasn’t real? How did you find out? – I don’t think I ever thought he was real.
  70. Is your glass half full or half empty? – It’s both.
  71. What’s the craziest thing you’ve done in the name of love? – Lots of stupid decisions.
  72. What three items would you take with you on a deserted island? – Paper, pen and a library.
  73. What was your favorite subject in school? – Arts. And literature.
  74. What’s the most unusual thing you’ve ever eaten? – Wild rice and some indefinable sort of goulash for breakfast in a St Petersburg hotel.
  75. Do you collect anything? – Pottery mugs. To hang on hooks in the kitchen of the home I’m going to have some day…
  76. Is there anything you wished would come back into fashion? – integrity in politics?
  77. Are you an introvert or an extrovert? – Introvert, without a doubt. Others occasionally are surprised to hear that, though.
  78. Which of the five senses would you say is your strongest? – I’m very visual. And tactile.
  79. Have you ever had a surprise party? (that was an actual surprise) – Yes! My friends threw me a party when I left for the UK. That was really lovely.
  80. Are you related or distantly related to anyone famous? – not that I know of – my grandma always told us that we’re descendants of King August the Strong’s coachman…that’s all there is of our claim to fame, apparently…
  81. What do you do to keep fit? – currently nothing. Want to go swimming again though. Used to dance every week. Hm.
  82. Does your family have a “motto” – spoken or unspoken? – “Let’s not talk about this”.
  83. If you were ruler of your own country what would be the first law you would introduce? – That education and welfare have unchangeable priority in how money is distributed.
  84. Who was your favorite teacher in school and why? – I had two I liked – both because they cared very much about the quality of their lessons and about the people in front of them.
  85. What three things do you think of the most each day? – work, what I’m writing at the time, the people I meet that day
  86. If you had a warning label, what would yours say? – “Will switch off automatically in case of emotional overload”.
  87. What song would you say best sums you up? – Come as you are
  88. What celebrity would you like to meet at Starbucks for a cup of coffee? – Emma Thompson.
  89. Who was your first crush? – A black-haired, green-eyed, quiet girl in first grade, I think.
  90. What’s the most interesting thing you can see out of your office or kitchen window? – Office window: a kindergarten. Very distracting at times.
  91. On a scale of 1-10 how funny would you say you are? – …
  92. Where do you see yourself in 10 years? – Running out of questions, are we…?
  93. What was your first job? – newspaper rounds.
  94. If you could join any past or current music group, which would you want to join? – Accentus. Laurence Equilbey’s chamber choir.
  95. How many languages do you speak? – 3 to 5
  96. What is your favorite family holiday tradition? – none.
  97. Who is the most intelligent person you know? – I think my previous boss would rate quite highly.
  98. If you had to describe yourself as an animal, which one would it be? – A night owl…
  99. What is one thing you will never do again? – Go out with the type of person I’ve gone out with in the past.
  100. Who knows you the best? – I do.
