We Know They Are For Us

“Something is different about people who love. They convey a presence that goes beyond the words they say, the things they do. We know they are for us. …Because the relationship is never at stake, we sense a freedom to enter fully into the enjoyment of relationship rather than to keep the relationship intact.”

I give thanks every day for the relationships in my life in which I feel like this – that I belong, without condition, that it is safe to relax and open up and be with the other, without fear of losing them, or their good opinion or their interest in me. Being with someone who loves me. I give thanks and rejoice.
