Brother Sam often prays a prayer that ends with, “We pray for all that builds up our common life.”

As the end of my first year at Hilfield comes up, I’ve been thinking a lot about what I value about our life here and how I can help ‘build it up.’ I thought of a lot of things, but what I realized in the end looking at my list was that it boils down to a dependence on Galatians 5:22-23. “The fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control.”

Here are snippets of some of the above I have seen here this year:

Love- Someone putting flowers in the bathroom when I was sick. Someone mopping the floor or doing the dishes when they didn’t have to. Br. Raymond carefully explaining what to do in chapel. Someone thinking of all the details of…
